Dr. Terezie Mandakova

Dr. Terezie Mandakova is a junior researcher at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC, Brno, Czech Republic). She gained an international reputation in the field of plant molecular cytogenetics. Teri's research is focused mainly on evolution of crucifers (Brassicaceae). Her comparative cytogenetic maps of crucifer species provide us with unique data on evolution of plant karyotypes and genomes. The main topics of Teri's research are: i) identification of the mechanisms responsible for chromosome number reduction, ii) role of polyploidy in karyotype and genome evolution, and iii) impactof chromosome rearrangements on plant speciation.

Title of talk: Multiple patterns of genome evolution in the Brassicaceae: a lesson from the polyploid-rich genus Cardamine
